Villars/Gryon

Feel like getting away from it all? The Vaud Alps are at your disposal.

Situated at 1300 m, on a sunny south-facing terrace high above the Rhone valley, the holiday resort of Villars-sur-Ollon in the heart of the Vaud Alps enjoys breathtaking views of the Dents-du-Midi and the Mont Blanc massif and as far as Lake Geneva.

Villars offers an international ambience, with guests of all ages – there are a number of exclusive private schools located here. Its smaller neighbour Gryon is a little lower down, on the more easterly side of the valley. Together, they make up the holiday destination of Villars-Gryon.

You reach these resorts by driving from Ollon or Bex in the Rhone valley. In summer, it is possible to drive to Les Diablerets over the Col de la Croix. From Bex there is also a narrow-gauge railway which winds its way in tight curves through Gryon and up to the sunshine terrace of Villars and on to Bretaye, the starting point for numerous sporting and leisure activities.

Le Chablais

Located at the tip of Lake Geneva and at the foot of the Vaudois Alps, the Chablais is a reputed winetouristic region

The Chablais region abounds with character vineyards and wine-related curiosities for wine fans. Since the Middle Ages, the Chasselas grape variety has made the wines of Aigle famous (Aigle les Murailles). Villeneuve is the smallest of the Chablais wine designations, Yvorne the largest. The vineyard of Ollon enjoys extraordinary conditions and offers many grape varieties, while Bex focuses on red wine specialties.
Tourists interested in wines and gastronomy can choose among many activities and events. The local winegrowers gladly welcome them to their cellar for wine tastings, while the region’s restaurants offer meals made from local products. In Aigle, the castle in the middle of the vineyards hosts the fascinating Museum of Vines and Wines. Aigle also plays host to the Chasselas world fair, which is held in June each year and brings together the wines based on this dry grape variety that is symbolic of the canton of Vaud.
